# Manage and assign payroll schedules

> Create pay cadences, assign current team members, and retire unused schedules.

Use owner or admin access in employer view. Open **Settings** → **Payroll schedules** when it is available to your company. If the section is missing, contact support to confirm availability; your retirement plan's [pay settings](/employers/retirement/plan-settings) remain a separate place to review the default cadence.

## Add a schedule

1. Select **Add schedule**.
2. Enter a unique **Schedule name**. Use no more than 80 characters, no commas, and a name other than `Default`.
3. Choose **Frequency**: **Weekly**, **Every two weeks**, **Twice a month**, **Monthly**, or **Quarterly**.
4. Complete the fields for that frequency. Weekly schedules use **Pay day**; every-two-weeks schedules also need a **Cycle anchor date**. Month-based schedules use **First pay day of month**, with **Second pay day of month** for twice-a-month schedules. The form uses `-1` for the last day of the month.
5. Check the cadence against your actual payroll calendar, then select **Save schedule**.
6. Review the saved schedule in the list.

Creating a schedule does not assign everyone to it or run payroll.

## Assign current members

From **Team Members**, use the person's action menu → **Assign payroll schedule**. Select the intended **Payroll schedule**, then select **Assign** and check the result.

Where bulk assignment is available, select the intended rows, choose the schedule under **Assign selected members**, and check the number on **Assign** before selecting it. Assign no more than 50 current members at a time. Check the resulting assignments before continuing with another group.

For new invitations and CSV imports, use the payroll-schedule field when offered. A blank schedule value in a supported import uses the default schedule. See [Import team members](/employers/import-team-members) for its format.

## Edit or archive a schedule

For an active custom schedule, choose **Edit**, update its name or cadence, and select **Save schedule**. Check the people assigned to it before making a change. A new cadence does not itself correct historical contribution runs.

To stop using a custom schedule, reassign its current members and resolve its pending invitations first. Choose **Archive** and read **Archive payroll schedule** before confirming. Archived schedules cannot be restored or edited. The **Default** schedule cannot be edited or archived from this page.

If archiving is blocked, follow the specific member or invitation issue. Do not remove an employee merely to archive a schedule. [Contact support](/contact-support) if the remaining assignment cannot be resolved.
