# Ask about a retirement withdrawal or transfer

> Prepare your questions and find out which process applies to your plan.

Contact your employer or plan administrator to find out whether a withdrawal or transfer is available under your plan. If you do not know who administers it, [contact Redii support](/contact-support) for help finding the right contact.

## Prepare your enquiry

Include your company and plan name, whether you are asking about a withdrawal or a transfer, and whether your employment has ended or is about to end. Explain what you want to do without attaching identity documents or bank details to the initial message.

You can adapt this message:

> I am a member of \[plan name] through \[company]. I would like to understand the process for \[a withdrawal / a transfer]. My employment \[is continuing / ends on date / ended on date]. Please confirm whether this is available under my plan, who handles the request, and the next steps.

## Get the process confirmed

Ask the administrator to confirm:

* Whether your circumstances and plan terms allow the request.
* Which amounts can be included, and how vested and unvested employer contributions are treated.
* The required forms and documents, and how to submit them securely.
* Any approvals, charges, deductions, or tax information you need to understand.
* The expected stages, how to track progress, and whom to contact about a delay.
* For a transfer, what the receiving provider needs to supply or accept.

Wait for the confirmed instructions before sending documents. An enquiry is not a submitted withdrawal or transfer request. When you do submit the required request, ask for acknowledgement and keep any reference provided.

## Check what your dashboard means

A portfolio balance, vested amount, or contribution record does not itself approve or initiate a payment. Changing your contribution rate or investment strategy does not submit a withdrawal or transfer.

Review [vesting information](/members/retirement/understand-vesting) and [prepare before leaving your employer](/members/leaving-your-employer) if those apply to your question.
