# Change your retirement contribution rate

> Update a voluntary contribution percentage and understand when the change applies.

Open **Retirement Benefits → Settings** after [enrollment](/members/retirement/enroll). Your employer's plan determines which contribution choices you can make.

## Update the rate

1. Find **Change Contribution Rate** and check your current rate and any **Plan maximum** shown.
2. Enter a different whole-number percentage in **New rate (%)**, within the displayed limit.
3. Select **Update Rate**.
4. Review **Confirm Rate Change**, including the contribution information shown.
5. Select **Confirm Change** and check the success message.

This changes your voluntary contribution choice. It does not edit your employer's contribution rules or change your investment strategy.

## When it takes effect

The new rate applies to the next contribution run. If a run is already in progress, the page says the change applies to the following run. A saved rate change does not recalculate a run already underway.

You can check available rate-change records in [History](/members/retirement/review-history). Ask your employer which payroll or contribution period will use the new rate if the timing is unclear.

## If you cannot update it

* **Update Rate** stays disabled when the value is unchanged or outside the allowed range. Check the percentage and plan maximum.
* If you see an error after confirmation, check the current saved rate and read the error before trying again. Correct the indicated information or ask for help.
* If your plan does not permit the contribution choice you need, ask your employer. A zero rate is not a request to withdraw your account or leave your employer.
